Airlines now charging for checked in bags

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Airlines are now charging travelers for bags they check in. No, I’m not talking about the previous, any more than 2 bags checked in and we will charge you. I’m talking about them charging for ANY bags checked in, including the first two. United for example will charge $15 for the first bag and $25 for the second bag. That’s ridiculous. Flights are already expensive enough.

These fees will be waived if you fly first or business class, which charge you more anyway.

Some airlines will even start charging for drinks on the plan. Although it’s only $2 for non-alcoholic drinks, that is still an extra charge. Why is everyone nickel and diming you all of a sudden? I know the economy isn’t great and people need to make a few extra bucks to compensate, but by charging customers more, some businesses may be alienating those customers and driving them to competitors. That is just no way to do business.

And once again this lays dormant

I am trying to keep up with this and post new content but its getting hard. I have so much going on and more is coming my way hopefully. This is a good thing I am so busy. I really want to keep this blog going so I am going to have to work on my juggling act a little better.

Toilet Seat Up or Down?

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

Let me start off by saying that I have been trained to always put the toilet seat down after I am done. I have lived with enough women to know better than to not leave it down. They have trained me well.

Now that I have said that disclaimer, permit to rant a bit.

Why do us men have to leave the toilet seat down after we use it? It makes much more sense to leave it up after we are done using it. There are a couple of reasons why. Mostly they are related but whatever. The first reason, and its a major one, is that it takes more effort for us to bend over, and raise the seat. Then after we are done, we have to do it again. It gets hard on our backs, this repetitive motion. That’s why more men than women are hunched over when they are old (I don’t know if thats a true stat or not). I petition we start a motion to save men’s backs.

Another reason for us to leave it up is for the ladies. Ladies, would you prefer to use a clean seat, or one that may be soiled because we were too lazy to pick the seat up? Personally, I would prefer a clean seat. Sometimes us men are tired, or lazy or not paying attention and we try and go standing up and have ‘accidentally’ left the down. Sometimes our aim isn’t quite so good or there is some splashing. Ladies, do you want to have to clean the seat every time you sit down? I thought not.

Really, the seat should be left up. When a woman goes to use the toilet, they are making a downward motion already, so why not extend it to the seat? Then when they are done, they make an upward motion. Again, take the seat with you. To me, that just makes more sense. Am I wrong in this?

As Vs Giants

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

Yesterday I went to a game where the Oakland Athletic’s were playing at ATT Park against the San Francisco Giants. It was a pretty good game with a very nice size crowd. The park said it was sold out but I saw a lot of seats available.

I still think ATT park is one of the best I have been to, except for the stupid ramp.  You have to go around so many times just to go up what would have been only a few flights of stairs.  Other than that though, its a pretty nice park.

The game itself was a lot of fun. There were a lot of As fans there so the banter back and forth was really good. In our section, two fans were having a yelling match back and forth and I honestly thought I would see a fight. It was exciting.

Well thats it for today. I’m going to try to do some graphic design now.

Mastercard Prevents Fraud - By Blocking Me?

Monday, June 9th, 2008

This weekend I was trying to buy a round trip airline ticket from San Francisco to Maine in order to spend a week with Amanda and her family. Pretty straight forward thing to do right? Pick a site (I went with Travelocity), enter some info like where from/to, dates and a whole lot of other stuff, mostly useless. Did that easily enough. Since I was trying to match Amanda’s flight info, it was even easier (not as cheap as other options but more convenient). So I’m zipping through all nice like until I get to the page where I have to pay.

At that point I pull out my handy dandy Paypal Debit Card so I could save a few bucks on this flight (from cashback) and enter my information. I check to make sure everything is accurate then click the submit button. After waiting a minute it comes back saying there was a problem with the card and to check the info or use a different card. So I check the info again, even re-entering it and try again. Same thing. Weird.
